Ristretto Reading Series, “The Secret World of Saints,” by Bill Donahue, Wednesday, January 11

Please join us on Wednesday, January 11, at 7 p.m. as Portland writer Bill Donahue reads from and discusses his new book, “The Secrets of the Saints,” released by byliner.com in December. Donahue’s story zeroes in on Kateri Tekakwitha, a seventeenth century Mohawk Indian and Catholic ascetic who slept on a bed of thorns. In late December, Tekakwitha was credited with causing a miracle in the life of a Lummi Indian boy. She will be named a saint, perhaps as early as next fall. But what, exactly, does that mean? How does someone become a saint? What’s the vetting process?
